A Better Guest: Asia Edition, By Makaila Odoom

If you go to a different country you should learn the manners they have. In Japan you should never point your chopsticks at others. But, it’s okay to slurp your noodles, so the host knows you are enjoying the meal.

In China, burping is good. But, interestingly, if you eat everything, that implies you didn’t get enough and still are hungry.

In South Korea, the oldest person at the table eats first. You don’t pour your own drink. Instead you ask or wait for someone to do it for you.

In Thailand, you would use chopstick to eat noodles. You would also eat sticky rice with your hands. When you eat other foods like green beans, slide your bite on to your spoon and then eat it.

If you know some of these local dining customs you will be a better guest in Asia.
