Foster Friends, Chapter 2, By Makaila Odoom

Chapter 2

If You Can’t Get It At First, Try Harder

The next morning, I am so excited to see my friends later today. I make my bed, and brush my teeth which is something I don’t usually do in the morning. I do it when I’m excited, and now was one of those times. I am so happy, I run downstairs and scream, “GOOD MORNING!”

“Good morning, Katie, AAAAAHHHHHHH!” Abby shrieks as I squeeze her very tightly. “Ouch that hurt!”

“Sorry!” I say, as I hug mom and dad.

“Good morning sweetheart! I’m about to go pick up the cake for the party. Would you like to come, after you eat?” Mom asks me. “

“Sure!” I exclaim. “I can’t wait to see all of my friends

“Oh by the way,” Mom says, “Kaila and Anna are coming to help with the decorations later.”

“Oh yeah! I forgot! I can’t wait to see them!” I say. “And mom can I have a dog?”

“No,” she replies.

I have been begging her if I could get a dog, but every time I ask she says no.

“Why not? I’ll do all the work! ” I say.

“No you won’t,” mom says, ”you don’t even do half of your chores!”

“But mom!” I complain.

“No, Katie and that’s final.” Mom says firmly.

Abby snickers at me. I glare at her.

“But…“ I start.

“You can get the party supplies from the basement and bring them up here,” Mom says.

“Fine,” I mumble.

I trudge down the many basement steps, and look for the big “new year’s decorations” box. When I finally find it, I trudge back up the steps, and I place it on the floor upstairs with a “huff”.

“You just got your morning workout,” Abby teases me.

I roll my eyes at her.

When I finish eating mom says, “Okay time to go! Abby do you want to come?”

“Sure, I love riding in our new car!” Abby says.

We just got a new Kia!

When we get to Cakes-A-Million, which is the name of the bakery. I ask mom again if I can have a dog, but  before I could even say dog she says, “No, Katie please stop asking me, I said no and that’s it.”

I sigh. Maybe I’ll never get a dog.

We go inside the bakery and I sniff the air. The smell of delicious cakes fills the air.

“Wow!” Abby and I gasp. “This is amazing!”

We walk up to a counter, where a lady is standing. “Hi!” she says cheerfully. “My name is Chloe, how can I help you?”

“We ordered a cake last week,” mom says.

“What’s the last name, please?” The cake lady asks. “Amana,” Mom answers.

“Yep, I’ve got you right here. One moment please!” The lady says.

She runs to the back of the shop and returns with a giant gold and black cake, that says. ‘Happy New Year’ with gold letters. We say goodbye and walk out the door, back to our car. Then we start to drive home.

Again, I ask, “Mom, pleeeeeeeeeessseee can we get a dog?”

“No, Katie, you have to be really responsible to do that,” Mom says.

I suddenly get a SUPER AMAZING IDEA! “Wait, so if I’m responsible I could get a dog?” I ask.

She shrugs.

“Possibly,” she replies.

I’ve got an idea, and I’ll need my friends help to make it happen, and also Abby’s help. “Grumble”.
